Lily the Pink and Love me do at home in Norwich, Beethoven, Greig and Dvorzak at my Grandparents house at the seaside up in North Norfolk are my earliest memories of listening to music. Music meant coming home from school to find my Mum sewing us summer dresses with the radio on, my Grandad playing the piano in the summer holidays and his gramophone playing on Sunday mornings.
As a child visiting my Grandparents for the summer, I tried to pick out familiar tunes on their piano and gradually taught myself to play, always wishing we had a piano at home. Nevertheless I managed to play well enough to amuse myself, spending hours trying to master a piece but sadly never becoming proficient enough to be quite satisfied.
I think that these early memories led to my enjoyment of music and inspired me to finally become a Presma teacher in 1997. I took my youngest two children to classes very briefly but unfortunately there were no classes near us, the journey proving too much so we had to give Presma up. When I found myself in a position become a Presma teacher myself, after undertaking Kodaly training, I chose to hold classes in some of the more rural areas of Norfolk and currently teach in Dereham, Blickling and Thorpe Marriott as well as several rural pre-schools and nurseries.
I live in North Norfolk with my daughter Jessica and dog Boswell. I love to be outside and enjoy gardening, walking in the countryside near my home or up on the coast. I like listening to almost all kinds of live music. I am a keen sailor and dream of sailing off to warmer latitudes one day! Meanwhile, I am content to sing about seashells and sailing away on a big red boat with yellow scarves for sails on a blue lycra sea!
“After 5 years the boys and I have learned more about music than we could possibly imagine. Its a great way to encourage sharing, listening and to get the children to express themselves through the music.”
